Never to Sleep by Rachel Vincent

This is a novella of the Soul Screamer series by Rachel Vincent.

I did a general blog about the first 8 books in the series here: Soul Screamers

I also reviewed the 5th printed book (the book before this novella) here: If I Die

Sophie Cavanaugh has had enough of her cousin, Kaylee's, weirdness. She wants to go through high school as a popular dancer, become the first junior dance captain, and live a normal life.

A normal life that disappears when she lets out a bloodcurdling scream and finds herself, along with a new, hot boy at school Luca, in a world where things do go bump in the night.

Sophie has no idea where she is. She doesn't know how she got there.

All she knows is that she does NOT want to be there. When her and Luca get separated, Sophie has to become brave and do things she never thought she would have ever done.

Will Sophie and Luca get out of this nightmarish place? And if they do, how can things ever go back to normal? Read Never to Sleep by Rachel Vincent to find out!

My Thoughts/Reflections
I'm really glad that I read this novella. I'm a hardcore Rachel Vincent fan and love all of her novels, so it was just a matter of time that I would get to this eBook as well.

I just had to get a Kindle app first!

And boy am I glad that I read this! I might have been confused in the next novel of the series, Before I Wake with Sophie's character!

Even though Sophie was finally introduced to the weirdness of her family, she still kinda annoyed me. I can't really say too much without giving the whole 61 pages of the novella away, but there were some statements that made me want to slap her.

I'm hoping that she changes in the final two novels of this series, but it's Sophie, so I don't think I'll hold my breath.

With that said, it was a great addition to add to the Soul Screamers series and I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the release of the next novel, Before I Wake, which comes out June 25, 2011.

If you haven't read Rachel Vincent's novels, I urge you to do so at once. You won't be disappointed!

If I Die by Rachel Vincent

Rachel Vincent did it again by creating an amazing book in the Soul Screamer series! I don't want to talk too much in detail about this book because it is the 5th book in the series, but I do want to say that everyone should go out right now and either buy or check out all of these books at the library! Vincent's writing is incredible, entrapping me into her story for ours straight. (I stayed up until 3:30 am and forced myself to stop reading!)

Here's a small portion of what happens in the story (without trying to give away too much about the previous 4 books): Kaylee is a banshee - she gets the urge to scream when anyone around her is dying. When she screams, she can keep their soul from moving on, and if she's with a male banshee, they can put the soul back into their body.

But it comes with a price: when one is saved, another will die.

Kaylee knows all about borrowed time; she died when she was 3 years old in a car accident and her mother and father saved her - but her mother died in her place. Now, it's Kaylee's turn to die, as she's dying on the day that her mother would have died if they didn't upset the natural order of life.

Throughout this novel, Kaylee realizes what's important to her. She only has 6 days to live - she's going to make the most out of it and not do things that she doesn't want to do. Now she's reevaluating her life and finding out that there are people she can and can't forgive for past actions, and she's going after what she wants rather than what she thinks other want her to do.

Again, this was an amazing book. There are so many surprises and, yes, there is a cliffhanger at the end of the novel, but I know that Vincent is working on the next novel right now and it will hopefully be out very soon! I can't wait to see the ending of this amazing series and I hope everyone will go out and read these books!

Soul Screamers series

I'm in the process of getting through City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare, so I thought I would blog about one of my all time favorite series Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent. This series, which has 8 books so far, is about Kaylee's life as a bean sidhe - a banshee. Everytime someone dies around Kaylee, she gets this urge to scream until she can't talk anymore.

At first Kaylee has no idea what is wrong with her. She goes into psychiatric care, thanks to her aunt and uncle, and after that vital mistake, Kaylee resists the urge to scream, holding it in until it brings her to tears. Surprisingly, Kaylee is able to find answers to what she is and how she can control it through Nash, another bean sidhe, at her school. She just might not like all of the answers that she gets.

Along with finding another bean sidhe, Kaylee discovers that there are demons in the underworld that she has to fight off, and some reapers as well. Life is never dull for Kaylee, that's for sure!  The storyline is very easy to follow and the interaction between Nash and his brother Tod (who turns out to be a reaper! Talk about brotherly rivalry) will make you literally laugh out loud with amusement. All of these books are on sale and the newest installment, If I Die, will be out in September.
