South of Nowhere - TV series

I've recently been watching the concluded TV show called South of Nowhere about this Ohio family who moves to Los Angeles, CA because their parents found better jobs that they want to improve on.

The mom works as an ER nurse, the father is a guidance counselor for teens, and they both find that being in a city gives them a better chance to use their practice to the fullest.

There are 3 siblings: Glen, who is a popular jock, impressively good at basketball; Clay, adoptive brother who is very, very smart (takes AP classes in high school); and Spencer, little sister, cheerleader, and a little bi-curious.

Each character has their own paths to take in school. Of course, Glen is a shoe-in for the jocks, though him and Aiden, star of the basketball team, get into it when they are fighting for the team spot and for the head cheerleader, Madison.

Spencer is trying to be the girl she was back in Ohio but she is finding herself changing with the new environment. When she finds out her best friend, Ashley, is gay, Spencer tries to figure out who she likes more: Aiden or Ashley.

Clay, growing up in an all white family while being African American, has never been judged by his race until he moves to LA. Now, he realizes that just because of his skin color, cops are more suspicious of him than his siblings and has to get used to being different from the rest of his family.

This show has every event and subject you can possibly imagine:

  • Small town to city living
  • Sports/sports injury
  • Sexual orientation/sexuality
    • Bisexual
  • Racial differences
  • Infidelity
  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Religion
  • Drug addiction
  • Underage drinking/clubbing
  • Adoption
  • Gangs/School lock downs
  • Unknown half sibling
The episodes are 30 minutes long and there are 3 seasons of this show. It aired from 2005-2008 on The-N station, which is now called Teen Nick. It actually goes pretty fast when you have the time to sit down and watch it.

I'm not sure why I watched it as quickly as I did. I think the character Ashley reminded me a lot of Sophia Bush when she was in One Tree Hill and Aiden is a cutie :)

But this tackles a lot of different subjects that I think the viewers can relate to, and the viewers will want to find out more and more about each character to see how the grown and change from when they first got to California.

Funnily enough, I really enjoyed it and watched the episodes online in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I think others will enjoy it as well and it doesn't take forever to watch the complete series (unlike Smallville where it's 10 seasons long! haha)

This was a hidden gem for me and I'm glad that I decided to watch the first episode to see what it was about!

Roswell (TV show)

As some of you may have noticed, I've been mysteriously gone from my blog. That would be because I started watching Roswell. And I became addicted to it. I watched all 3 seasons (61 episodes total) in 6 days.

So I'm going to blog about it :)

Roswell aired from 1999-2002, so it is an older show which you can see by looking at their cell phones and the gas prices!

This television show is about 3 characters who are aliens. They were born out of a pod, 30 some years after a spacecraft crashed in Roswell, New Mexico.

The three aliens (named Max, Isabel, and Michael) were doing pretty well keeping their identity a secret from everyone. That was, until Max healed a human from a gunshot wound. But Max was not going to let Liz die because he has secretly been watching her, growing feelings for her, even though he has never talked to her.

After he brought Liz back from the brink of death, though, Liz wanted answers. And she got them. She was in on their secret, making her the first human to know that aliens really do exist, even if they look like normal human beings instead of 3 feet green people.

But then Liz's best friend Maria was let in on the secret too, because Maria is too smart for her own good and knew something happened to Liz that day she got shot.

Then throughout the series, these 5 characters (along with a few more that will find out throughout the show. And no, I'm not saying because you'll need to watch it to find out ;-)) will be put in the middle of alien related events that will put their lives at risk.

I was hooked right away with this show. The chemistry between Liz and Max is extreme that any viewer can see they are having a horrible time keeping their relationship platonic. And I absolutely love the actress who played Liz, Shiri Appleby, even though I've never seen her in any other show.

There were also famous actors/actresses in here like Colin Hanks (Tom Hanks's son) and Katherine Heigl.

And I was ecstatic that it was only 3 seasons, because I am well known to sit in one spot during a 10 season show and stick with it. So I didn't waste my whole life watching this particular tv show :) Although I would have if there were more seasons!

There was so many twists and turns throughout this show that I thought it was more than 3 seasons, though. It was still hard to get to the end of the series, though.

However, there was an ending that could be continued if anyone desired to continue the 3 aliens's story. But seeing as how it has been 10 years since the conclusion, I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon.

So, yes. This show is about aliens.

But it's also about forbidden love, tortured soul mates, destinies that need to be fulfilled, futures that are not determined, and relationships that outlast anything that comes in their path.

I'm so glad I finally sat down to watch this show, and if any of the above sounds like something you want to watch, I would strongly recommend watching this very short, but impacting television show as soon as possible!

Friday Night Lights (TV show)

I just watched the complete series of Friday Night Lights - the television show that was on NBC from 2006-2011 (so 5 seasons altogether).

This show is set in Dillon, TX, a small community where everyone loves football. And I mean everyone. There is a new coach in town, Coach Eric Taylor, and his family: wife, Tami Taylor and 15-year-old daughter Julie Taylor.

Everyone is suspicious if Coach Taylor can take this team to state, which is the only thing anyone can think about when talking about football.

Coach Taylor even has the next all-star quarterback, Jason Street, to play for his team the first year coaching. After the first game, though, Jason gets hurt and Coach Taylor's preparation for the season is messed up.

Now Coach needs to use the second string quarterback, Matt Sarcean, to finish the game. Surprisingly, after a few messups, Matt was able to win the first game for the Dillon Panthers before the team went to see how Jason was doing.

When everyone finds out that Jason was paralyzed from the waist down and will never recover his legs again, the whole team, plus the whole town has to adjust to Matt being the quarterback and still try to aim for state.

As seasons went on, players were changed and new stars were found through Coach Taylor and his ability to coach good athletes into amazing players and people.

My Thoughts/Reflections
Now, I'm not a big football fan. Actually, I really could care less about football to be honest. However, during all of the games that were played on this show, I was yelling things like, "Defense! Pick it up, defense!" or "That's a flag, ref!"

Let's just say, I got into not only the storyline, but the game as well, whether I was a football fan or not.

This show was amazing! They went in depth with all of the main characters, having their own background story and problems they have to deal with while also feeling the pressure from the town while on the football team.

I also like how the show kept the students in the grades they were supposed to be in and graduated when they were supposed to (although I got confused at first who was what grade because they never really talked about who was what age in the first season. Just Jason, who was a senior, was the only one I was sure of first season.).

I would recommend this show to teenagers and adults. There are a lot of relatable events that happen in this show: loss, love, sports, family, friends, problems in school, heartbreak. And it's set in a small town, so anyone from a small town will definitely be able to relate to the atmosphere of Dillon, TX.

I'm glad that I watched all of this show and I wish that there could be more. Even though it was 5 seasons of football, there were new characters to meet, different problems that arouse, and we got to see the older characters in their new life, whether it was college, working, or with a new family.

Since it is all finished, you can try to find it online for free (like I did) or all 5 seasons are available in one collection on Amazon.com (Click here if you're interested).

Wildfire - TV Series

Season 1
In 2005, ABC Family aired a new series called Wildfire. The show is now complete - it finished in 2008 after 4 seasons.

The show focuses on a Thoroughbred horse (Wildfire) and Kris Furillo, a  juvenile who was sent to juvie jail for stealing a car and "resisting arrest". Kris met Wildfire through the equine center at Camp Lagrange (the Juvie center) where Kris connected with Wildfire and they became amazing friends.

Season 2
In the first season, after Kris gets on parole from Camp Lagrange, Kris gets a chance to go to Raintree Farms where Pablo works. He was the trainer who helped the girls at Camp Lagrange with the horses and he saw Kris really care and connect with the horses.

Kris gets a job there and stirs up trouble between two close friends: Junior and Matt. Matt is the owners son at Raintree Farms and Junior is the family's rival farm (Davis Farm) and also very rich and successful. Raintree was not successful in their horse training and was struggling with money when the show starts.

Season 3
The longer Kris is at Raintree, the longer the tension gets between both Kris and Matt, and Kris and Junior. However, the training that Kris does with the horses turns out well - so well that she decides to get a jockey license to start professional racing.

This is a great series! I've actually watched the first 2 seasons when they aired and then watched the whole series twice - back to back! There are only 13 episodes in the 4 seasons (so 52 episodes total) and it is drama and action filled with every episode.

Season 4
Also, I was able to watch the show completely on Hulu.com, so if you're interested you can go on there and watch it for free! (Hint, hint!). ...Not that I'm trying to tell anyone to go watch them...right now...or anything!

While watching the show, you'll get emotionally attached to all of the characters. And! When Kris is racing in her jockey matches with her horses, it is very intense. I would go at times without breathing because I was waiting to see if she won or not. My heart was definitely racing by the end of each race and I was either very excited or very disappointed, depending the end results.

I think this show could be for any audience. I'm not a teen anymore and I still love this show - and this show has been finished for 4 years and I still think that teens today would like the storyline and characters in this show.

New TV Show Obsession

I've been wanting to watch a tv show for quite a while now but didn't want to buy all 6 seasons - I wasn't sure if I would like it THAT much. So I decided that I would find links online to watch the first season.

What, may you ask, is this show? It's none other than Lost which finished airing last year. I'm so upset that I didn't watch this show when it was on ABC! I LOVE it!

The reason I started watching this show was because Ian Somerhalder is in it. I know he's not a main, main character, but after being obsessed with Vampire Diaries (which I pre-ordered the second season already, eek!) I wanted to see other roles that he's acted in. I did stumble upon him in the pilot episode of Fearless (which is talked about in detail at this link) and now I'm flying through the first episodes of Lost.

Thankfully I have an account on www.sidereel.com where I can track shows, current or completed, and they provide a ton of links that I'm able to watch.

So, suffice to say, I love this show and while I may be able to restrain myself from buying all of the seasons on DVD, I'm definitely going to be spending a lot of my free time watching the shows because it hooked me right from the first episode.

Fearless Pilot (TV show)

So I did a review on the book series Fearless by Francine Pascal (here's the link to the review) awhile ago. Well, I didn't mention that CW (or WB or whatever they are calling themselves now) tried to make a tv show about it! This was about 5 or more years ago when I was still in high school and apparently they released the first pilot show!

This episode is based on the series of Fearless FBI where Gaia is in the FBI and out of high school. I was a little disappointed with the person they chose for Gaia (Rachel Leigh Cook) not because I don't like her (I actually love her as an actress) but because she isn't the right description for Gaia's character which is long blonde hair, blue eyes, and doesn't care about her appearance. However, I still would have watched this show religiously if it would have kept airing.

Sadly, it didn't get any farther than that show on air. I hunted, and I mean HUNTED, to find this show online and while the quality it not the best, I did find the episode :) It's in 5 parts and I'm including the link's below (1st link is the first part, and so on.)

Part 1 out of 5:

Part 2 out of 5:

Part 3 out of 5

Part 4 out of 5:

Part 5 out of 5:

Hope you enjoyed it and maybe it will make you want to read the 40+ books in the series :D Or, maybe not!

Dawson's Creek

I went on a binge about a month ago and bought all 6 seasons of Dawson's Creek and the last "movie" conclusion. So instead of reading my YA books for fun lately, I've been rushing through season 6 of DC. I absolutely love this show! And I am completely jealous of Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) because all of the cute guys in this show? Yeah, she gets to date them! Although so far she hasn't kissed Jensen Akeles, who surprised me by showing up in season 6, she got to kiss Chad Michael Murry and Oliver Hudson, among many, many more.

Now some may wonder why I like this show - most of the time I feel that it is a soap opera. Actually, I think it was showed on the soap opera station, but that's not the point. At times, most of the problems that the cast has can be real life related. I especially think that the experience the characters went through when they were deciding what college to go to and how their friendships were fragile with the changes.

Hopefully I will finish the 6th season soon because I miss my fun reading :) It seems that the episodes are very addicting and I've been a couch potato for far too long.

True Blood vs. Vampire Diaries

I'm very excited that True Blood is coming back for another season! It starts tomorrow and while I don't have HBO I will be searching bright and early Monday online to find a link that will allow me to watch it for free (I know, I know, but I watch tons of shows online for free).

When I first started watching this show, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue to the next season. I mean, I would laugh hysterically when Bill would say Sookie's name and Eric's hair was just too much. But then, Eric cut off his hair and it was like a new person on the show! It was then that I became a fan and watched the show by the season, not taking too much of a break between each episode (Thank you Charles C. Myers Library for buying all of the seasons :D).

Now, I know many tv watchers are fans of Vampire Diaries so True Blood is not liked among many (for some odd reason viewers are only fans of one vampire show or the other, not both).

I happen to love both, but for different reasons. Vampire Diaries cast members are ALL beautiful (even the female actresses!) while I only think less than a handful are beautiful in True Blood (thank you Eric for cutting your hair!).

The age difference is also a big factor for why fans like one or the other. I happen to be a YA fan so the younger ages in Vampire Diaries doesn't faze me as much, plus I'm at the age between each of the casts' ages, so it works well for me. I'm hoping that True Blood will finish it's season before Vampire Diaries because, while I won't get the story lines mixed up (hello?), it will be nice to not have to watch two vampire shows at the same time - I won't be overwhelmed by vampires and my fascination for vampire stories won't dim away.

In my opinion, there can be no comparison between these two shows because they are so different (if you overlook the vampire characters that is ;D).
