Review: Bastard by J. L. Perry

Bastard Bastard by J.L. Perry
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley.  This is my honest review.

I honestly went into this story thinking these characters were going to meet in their 20's or so, but the actually meet when they are in high school!  Definitely wasn't expecting that, but I wasn't mad at the additional background of how they met and how they reacted toward each other.

I really love Indiana in this story - she's so sweet and naive, but strong and determined all in one little package.  And Carter was sure to remind her of her size every time he called her "kid".  Carter was a brooding, moody, stubborn 17 year old.  He really let that one moment bury itself inside of him and really shaped him into the person he was becoming.  What little things in life that have such a huge meaning - this is a prime example of that.

I loved the moments when they were able to act on their feelings and not think of "what if" afterward.  It didn't happen that often in this book, but when it did I loved ever second of it.

There is a lot that happens in this book, and while I appreciated the information, I feel that it could have been shortened just a little bit.

Otherwise I enjoyed this story and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it!
