Review: Kindled by Erica Stevens

Kindled Kindled by Erica Stevens
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book showcased Cassie and Devon individually which was a nice change ogf pace frim the previous 2 novels. As Im finding out, these books are full of twists and turns and unexpected surprises. I'm not too thrilled with the ending of this book because it's going to cause a lot of drama and angst in ther following book, I'm sure. I'm in the thick of it though and am interested to see what happens next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was full of twists and turns for the characters. I found myself wondering if Cassie, Chris and Melissa are ever going to fight though. They are these Hunters but except for the very first scene in the 1st book, we haven't seen them so much.

I feel bad for Cassie during this novel. She gets one thing after another shoved at her until she finally just gives up. I honestly don't blame her for the way she is reacting at the end of this novel. I am curious what Devon find out though. Its definitely a mystery I'm eager to figure out.

Kindred Kindred by Erica Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cassie, Chris and Melissa are Hunters who kill vampires. There aren't many anymore after the vampires wiped out the Hunter existence, so they kill vampires while they can as they are still training.

Cassie hates what she does. She's too emotional and always thinks about the fact that vampires were once human and she catches a glimpse of that person right before they die. Sadly Cassie is the best fighter of the the and she had no choice in the matter.

Lately Cassie had been feeling empty. Like she's missing a piece of herself and everyday gets harder and harder for her. Shockingly when she she's a new guy in her town, that feeling goes away and is replaced by a hyper awareness of him. Aliveness. Cassie knows this connection isnt good and she tried her hardest to run and avoid it.

But Devon is determined to get to know Cassie and her well not stop chasing her until he does.

When an unexpected visitor comes to town, secrets on both sides are revealed. There may not be a way to come back from this though...

This was an intriguing novel. I'm actually very surprised that I want annoyed by the insta love and the repetition like I saw many reviewers mention. But for some reason I really liked the connection and chemistry between these two. I also really enjoyed Devon's viewpoint as well.

Overall Im glad I decided to read this book and that I have the whole series to dive into!

I haven't read this series yet so I was a bit overwhelmed with all of the characters and getting to keep them straight. Out of all of the characters, Izzy was the one I liked the most, which is a good thing since that is the only book I have of this series currently. Maybe if I love iut I might read the rest of the series :)

Just when Elizabeth was warming up to Daniel, shit hits the fan. I would think being as level headed and string willed as she is that Elizabeth would have confronted Daniel with the news she just found out, but I also know that emotions run high and people don't always think things through during those times.

And of course with an ending like that, I must get the final episode to find out how everything ends.

Elizabeth is a very determined and strong willed character. She is dedicated her whole life to her career and will let nothing stop her from achieving her goals.

But Daniel is also determined and he's set his sights on Elizabeth. She's not making it easy for him, but he's not giving up on her.

This was a good short novel. I am intrigued on how long Elizabeth can hold her ground and ignore Daniel.

June had been groomed and trained to run the hotel business that her mom and dad created in their small town. When her dad tries to buy the neighboring land, he gets stuck because the owners dont want to sell.

June knows Kase and tried to ask him herself if he would sell. She didn't expect him to agree but with stipulations. The main one being that June will stay with him on the farm for 2 weeks. June had always felt a strong chemistry between them so she knows things will get physical immediately.

June also wasnt prepared to find out dark secrets about her parents. Just when she thought life couldnt get more perfect, she was thrown into chaos.

I've had this book for awhile and thought that I would see what it's all about. It was an okay book. There were some good parts and some not so good parts for me but it was a fast read.

I loved seeing Kase's love for his home and his land. County living is such a wonderful thing that many people don't get to experience, so I'm glad June got to experience that.

Thr characters drove me crazy because they both felt such strong feelings for each other but they weren't telling each other and kept driving one another away. I just want people to say what is on their mind, that way no one is confused or misunderstood.

Overall this was a good book. I'm not sure if I'll read any other novels from this series unless they are free liked this one though.

Filthy English Filthy English by Ilsa Madden-Mills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dax is known for his scoundrel ways at school with three ladies. But after being in London for three last 3 months taking care of his cousin, he's starting to slow down and realize he needs to figure out his life so he can graduate.

When Remi gets dumped buy her fiancee 2 weeks before her wedding, she still takes her honeymoon to London so its not wasted money. What she didn't expect to find was her first love Dax to be there.

Even more unexpected was that she ends up as his roommate when they go back to school. Remi and Dax have a long history with each other and seem to want a future together but many obstacles seem to keep popping up. Son time will run out for them unless they seize the moment.

It was nice to get Dax's story! I am definitely loving Declan and Elizabeth's story more because I connected with them better but this was also a cute novel.

I wish Dax would have gone after what he wanted instead of running from it, but thankfully Remi was able to put on the big girl panties and go after it herself in the end. Im glad I made the time to read these two books!

Review: Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Dirty English Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Elizabeth Bennett will never fall in love again. After she was treated by her ex in college, Elizabeth has sworn that she will always be in control of her life and her body. That's why she has one night stands with nerdy type guys so she can control the entire situation.

Everything changes, though, when she meets Declan Blay. He is not the typical guy she picks up and Elizabeth realizes that she could very easily fall in love with him, which is the complete opposite of her rules.

But Declan knows what he wants, and he's pretty determined tho get it. Elizabeth needs to figure out what she wants before time runs out.

I really didn't think I was going to like this book as much as I did! I was very surprised by the storyline, the characters, and the chemistry! Elizabeth is very flighty and indecisive but I can understand why after what she went through. Not only with her ex but also with the way her mother is too.

But Declan. Boy oh boy what I would do to take Elizabeth's place haha. I loved how determined he was, not only with Elizabeth, but also with the gym and his overall aspect of life. Hes a fighter and knows what he wants, so he will do whatever it takes to succeed his goals.

I'm very glad I finally read this book, and that I have book number 2 to devour right now! This may be a potential re-read in the future.

Also anyone who liked Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire will really enjoy this book, I feel like! :)

Review: The Flame Never Dies by Rachel Vincent

The Flame Never Dies The Flame Never Dies by Rachel Vincent
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Okay. I read this book because I had a lot of open questions at the end of the first novel. I wouldn't say that all of my questions were answered with this book but I can safely say that I now know the ending that Rachel Vincent created for this new world. I do have to admit that I skimmed quite a bit to find out what happens next. I wasn't as committed or devoted to this book as I could have been but I was able to get to the end.

I felt like Nina grew as a character and this novel, and really dedicated her decisions based on her beliefs. There were a lot of events that occurred that I did not see coming, which was a nice change of pace for me. All of the characters were growing in their own way throughout this novel. There were a lot of shocking moments and conclusions for each character's inner struggles that they have.

The only thing I thought was interesting was the very end. With the amount of determination that Nina had, I wouldn't have thought she would have made that choice. However, it definitely leaves a lot to be imagined for the communities in this world that Vincent created.

Overall this was an interesting and unexpected story, and it intrigued me to complete the series.

Review: The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent

The Stars Never Rise The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The world changed when demons possessed humans and wiped out over half of humanity. Now the church is on charge of everything: government doctors, teachers, etc. And the rules are strict and severe if you sin.

Nina is struggling. Her mother is popped up on pills and Nina needs to find a way to take care of her 15 year old sister Melanie without the church finding out what is going on. Just for another year, until Nina turns 18 and can take care of Mellie herself. But to do that, Nina is committing a lot of sins that could get her into serious trouble.

Everything changes though when Nina's life gets turned upside down. No ober is who she thought they were... including herself. Now with a group of strangers sheer must rescue her sister before the church makes her an example. And Nina must figure out the end game begore it's too late...

So this book.... not what I expected at all. I love love love Rachel Vincents shiul screamer series and thought this one was going to fall into my love pile as well, but I had a pity of trouble. Because this was so focused on the Church, being the government and all, I was lost...a lot. I dont have a religious background so I was confused and couldn't follow the structure and world building very well.

And then when Finn's secret was revealed? SO confused then! This book was different. Unique. But for me a bit hard to understand at first. And Nina was a hard character to figure out because she was contradicting herself so much.

Now even though it was difficult for me, I think I might still read the nect and final book, just to see how it all ends. Otherwise I'll just be wondering!

Review: Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Storm and Fury Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this eARC novel from the author and from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Trinity's life is different. She lives with the Wardens, but she is not a Warden. She trains like a Warden, but most in her community think that she's a human. She's not just a human. Trinity is one of the last of her kind, but she cannot let anyone know what she is. Not the Wardens, who might think she's an abomination. Not the humans, who can't comprehend what exactly she is. And definitely not the demons, for they would do anything to get their hands on her.

Trinity is just waiting for the day that her father will summon her to use her greatest weapon to stop a certain event. What the event is? She has no idea.

Things get a little complicated, though, when 3 Wardens show up. No one - never - comes to their community, so the fact that 3 new people are there, welcomed, makes Trinity go into spy mode to figure out what is happening. And that's when she bumped into Zayne, an interesting Warden with his own secrets to hide.

When Trinity's protector, Misha, gets taken by an upper level demon, Trinity is making it her mission to get her protector, but more importantly her friend, back. And to do that, she is leaving with Zayne. Trinity has always wanted to travel, but this was not what she had in mind.

The longer Trinity is away from her home, the more secrets are revealed. Not only about her, but about everything in her life. By the end of her journey, Trinity will wonder what was real and what wasn't...

Oh man. I was a little hesitant about this book. Not because I thought I wouldn't like it (it's JLA, I'll always love it!) but because it was about Zayne and I was totally Team Roth in the previous series. I was just hoping that I would find a way to connect with Zayne, but I shouldn't have worried because Armentrout was able to make me fall in love with Zayne almost as much as I love Roth. Trinity is a great fit for him, and I'm so glad that the storyline went in this direction because it is so great!!

I wish we were able to get Zayne's viewpoint throughout the novel, because I'm sure what he was thinking about Trinity would have been amazing. Zayne is such a good guy, but Trinity pushed him past some dark secrets and really tested his boundaries. It would have been amazing to see what he was thinking about her during those times.

Also, with Trinity's eye disease, which JLA also has. I really thought Armentrout did an amazing job explaining it in a way for readers to understand this rare eye disease. I can't imagining going through that process, and when Trinity freaked out when Zayne essentially blocked all vision - that would be me everyday thinking about the future not being able to see. That is my worst fear - losing my vision, and Armentrout was really brave for making her main character have something so personal to her life.

I'm so glad I didn't let me hesitance stop me from reading this book, because now I need to know more and more about what is going to happen to these characters! Fans of JLA and The Dark Elements series is going to LOVE this next installment!

Ash and Noelle's story was...complex... I had a big feeling that Ash was going to run away from his feelings he has toward Noelle and I was proven right. I hated how he was so mean to her and then went to the sultry looks the next time he saw her. It honestly made mre hate Ash a little bit. And I'm kinda upset on the way Noelle left her job... I wanted it to be a firm decision but it wasnt like that.

The one thing I loved though was the epilogue with all of the characters! It was so nice to see how their lives have turned out and it was so sweet. I'm so glad that I got a chance to read this whole series and I definitely won't be forgetting these characters any time soon :)

I wasn't thrilled with Zoey and Blake's story. Blake was too distant to Zoey for the majority of the book for my liking. He was always finding a reason to ignore her and then when Zoey was giving another guy attention he went all crazy jealous and decided she was his... I did like how Zoey decided to go after what she wanted, consequences be damned. Overall it was okay. I'm just not a fan of Blake.

I was a little leery going into this book... I really didn't like Carina in the previous novels so I want looking forward to reading about her love story. Thankfully it wasnt that bad because she was changing her ways and her attitude toward life. Plus I think Garrett helped with that too because he is so different from her previous 3 fiancees. The hurdles both of these characters had to go through were rough, but they were able to find their way.

This was a cute book. Presley was a lot insecure and was always waiting for the worst thing possible to happen to her, which got to be a bit much, but understandable because of how her mother raised her. The "pursuing" Braden did wasnt that impressive to me and him always being with other girls didnt really state that he was in love with her the second he saw her...

The ending was good and even though it said look for book 2 im content with this one book.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Again, this was a meh book. I liked it, and I didn't like it depending on which part of the novel we are talking about. The one thing that really got to me, annoyance anyway, was that Yanna was so... hot and cold. She would say one thing, do another, and think a third thing. It is very frustrating and I was almost wanting Constantijin to just end it with her because she was being childish and very flighty. I get that she wants the true love life, but she's toying with Constantijin and I don't think that is right at all. Especially considering that Constantijin is trying really hard to change his ways for her, and she's just messing around with him, basically.

But the ending was, again, worth me going into the next novel, so I'm intrigued to see how this all ends. Hopefully it won't be a waste of my time :)

Chased Chased by Marian Tee
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Yanna is an interesting character. She's never had a job, never had a boyfriend, and pretty much never lived as far as I can tell. I wonder what she did with her life for the past 24 years besides being very much sheltered. But I'm not judging, just wondering how I can get that life, and then get my dream job automatically! Cause I have a lot of interviews before getting a job I love...

The "relationship" between her and Constantijin is a bit much... Some may even think that Constantijin is border-line a rapist during some of the scenes in this book. When a girl says no, you respect it. No matter what. But I was able to look past that and get to the end of the story, which I'm glad I did because I'm curious how things are going to progress in book #2.

I think this book is meant for some readers, and other readers will instantly hate it. I'm indifferent - in the middle - so it will be interesting to see how the rest of the series goes.

Genesis has been trained her whole life on how to serve the immortals in case her number gets called. But when she actually gets picked, she realizes that humans know nothing about immortals and she has no idea what she walked into.

Strangely she's not as terrified as she expected to be, but she's still adjusting to her new life. But before she can get too comfortable, she goes through one test and trial after another. Being that she is a mere mortal, there's only so much her human body can stand. And the immortals may be asking for too much...

Wow! I really didn't expect to love this book as much as i did! I'm a big fan of Rachel so thats what drew me to this book first but then the story captivated me and i couldnt put it down!

Genesis is an amazing woman. She is so brave and smart and tough and loyal. I would have been terrified if I was her but she held her ground and fought back a lot.

Im very intrigued by the other characters in this series and would like very much tho see how their stories pan out so i may have to get the rest of the series...

The Wrong Kind of Love The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Nicole's life has just hit the fan. She finds out that her fiance left with her twin sister right before she was making her vows at her wedding... so of course the natural response was to run and take her sister's flight to Michigan and run away from the disaster that has become her life.

When Nicole finds out that Veronica was supposed to start a job to nanny a six-year-old, she decides to meet with the family and tell them about the mess up and that she is there instead of Veronica. What she didn't expect was to be asked to take Veronica's place and her name for a few months. Nicole doesn't want to but feels guilty leaving them in the lurch so she reluctantly agrees.

In the last unexpected thing Nicole thought would happen would be to fall for the six-year-olds father. She is trying to resist temptation, but it's really hard with Dr. McBrooding who is starting to thaw around her.

Everybody has dark secrets in their closets but it seems that Nicole's and Ethan's are about to reveal themselves before they are ready for the consequences.

This was a gteat novel. I really loved the connection between Nicole and Ethan oh, and I also loved how Nicole and Lilly connected so well with each other. I can't imagine what Nicole went through and how she could even talk to her sister after what she did to her. I'm a girl that holds a grudge so that would have been at least a five-year cold-shoulder lol.

I also feel for Ethan and what he went through with his previous wife. It seems there are a lot of common themes that happened to Ethan if you really stop and think about it after reading this book. I do have to say that I love the Jackson family and I may just have to read the rest of the series to see how each one of them fall for the love of their lives. It sure is a rambunctious bunch and I can only imagine the stories and adventures they go through. I also hope that Lilly is a main princess in each novel haha.

So glad I got the chance to read this book and I will be looking for more by this author in the future!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Poppy loves to garden. It's her passion and she's damn good at it. She doesn't need a man to help her with her business - she just wants to get her business up and going and become successful...which is hard to do as a single women in the 1750's...

She gets a great gig with the Duke of Westmead to decorate his estate for a lavish party. But more than just getting her business reputation occurs during her frequent visits to his home. By the end of it, she finds herself engaged to the Duke of Westmead and wondering what just happened.

But the Duke has dark secrets - secrets he doesn't want to share with Poppy. The only thing is, if he were to share, he thinks she would be revolted. but Poppy is not a typical woman in her time, and she may just surprise the duke yet...

This was a good historical fiction novel. It's been so long since I've read one of these that it took me a little longer to get into a story where a character can have 3 names and it's just one person. There were moments that I became bored with the story, but I just skimmed past those sections and got to the middle and end, which kept my interest.

Poppy and the Duke were a hoot and a half watching them figure each other out. I just wanted them to both come clean with their secrets and their desires, because they would have been a lot happier a lot earlier in the book. But that's what the drama is for, right?

Overall, I enjoyed getting back into a historical fiction novel and I may just have to find some more to dive into later. I'm glad I got a chance to read this eARC.
