Blackthorn by J.T. GeissingerMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
This is my first novel by this author so I'm not sure if it's normal to have an unhinged plot twists and holes, but I have no idea what just happened. I was really enjoying this book. A good 4 stars until about 80% in. Then the main character is having sex with a winged monster and she's losing her mind with conversations that never happened? I'm all about any kind of romance so I'm not judging, I just got whiplash from 2 different stories happening in a span of pages. Like the author couldn't decide on what story they wanted to write...?
I seriously loved the banter between Maven and Ronan. Their tension was immaculate. I loved that the whole town feared the Blackthorns. Having that power is great of you own up to it, though it seems like younger Maven wanted to hide rather than scare anyone.
Maven's family was odd. I got that vibe from the very beginning. Eve little Bea seemed strange and the way Maven wasn't taking care of her the second she walked through her childhood door was unnerving.
So, yeah, apparently not the book for me. Glad I got around to reading it, though, to know that now.
