Review: Slumber by Becky Bird

Slumber Slumber by Becky Bird
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this free eARC novel from BookSirens and the author. This is my honest review.

This was a cute, fast read of a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I loved Lucy so much. She is a fish out of water, a girl born in the wrong era. She doesn't want to wear dresses or learn how to sew, but she does want to wear pants, hunt, fish, and be useful. That's how her dad raised her, and that's how she wants to be. But society is forcing her to be a "lady"... So much so that she decides to leave.

When she runs into the future king, Prince Thomas, he has a rude awakening on how this "commoner" treats him. Lucy doesn't care that he's royalty or the proper way she's supposed to act. She tells him like it is and how nasty he treats everyone.

Thomas is a little brat at the beginning of the novel. Enough to make me want to slap some sense into him. So I'm glad that Lucy gave it to him straight and he actually grew into a person who deserves respect and love from the people that he will eventually rule.

Overall, I'm really glad I got a chance to read this book. Lucy and Thomas both matured during this novel and they learned a lot of things in their adventure. It is also an unique view of the Sleeping Beauty story.
