Paranormalcy

I just read Paranormalcy by Kiersten White for my YA workshop I'm taking and I really liked it! The main character, Evie, is a 16 year old who has a full time job: working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. This is where the "agents" who work there hunt down paranormal creatures (vampires, werewolves, mermaids, faeries, trolls, tree spirits - you name it!) and bring them back to the IPCA to "tame" them and make them less harmful.

Evie is there because she has a unique talent: she can see past any paranormal glamour. So instead of seeing the gorgeous vampire, she sees a dead corpse with thinning hair. Not the best view, but it helps her find the paranormals very quickly!

Things start to go wrong, though, when paranormals are found dead all over the world with no signs of struggle or any reason for why they are dead. Evie already has her hands full with a shapeshifter, her ex-boyfriend Reth who's a faerie and wants to take her soul, and finding out that she might not be what she thought she was.... Adding another "weird" event into Evie's already weird life might be more than she can handle.
